Llanidloes Primary School were today celebrating a win of £800 worth of Welsh second language resources from Awen, a multimedia company based in Cardiff who specialize in creating educational resources.
A small group of children from Llanidloes school took part in a quiz organised by the company during the Urdd Eisteddfod in Cardiff Bay. The quiz was organised to celebrate and launch a new series of factual books, aimed at key stage 2 Welsh learners.
'Cyfres Darllen Difyr' contains six factual books full of interesting facts and colourful photographs to entertain and educate children aged between 7 and 9 years olds who are learning Welsh as a second language. The content is aimed at learners working on level 1, 2 and 3.
The series is loosely based on different weather elements, but introduces vocabulary on a range of themes. Additional downloadable materials to accompany the series, such as teacher notes and translations, are also available from Awen's website free of charge.
Rhian Roberts, classroom teacher at Llanidloes Primary School said: “We are delighted to have won this competition. These resources will be very valuable for the school and will assist the children to extend their vocabulary by playing interactive games and by reading these colourful books. I'm sure they'll be very popular with the children time after time.”
Awen would like to thank teaching co-ordinator Ms Sally Ann Preston for promoting the competition in schools in Powys.
